Challenge

Finding trusted professionals in Costa Rica shouldn't be hard.

Costa Rica lacks a centralized directory of verified service providers. The search relies on word-of-mouth, Facebook groups or outdated listings. Capchy was built to solve that: a web directory where finding the right professional is fast, filtered and with direct contact.

Approach

Web-first, MVP with WhatsApp handoff.

We chose responsive web over native apps to maximize reach and iteration speed. The Kotlin/Ktor backend with Clean Architecture ensures long-term maintainability. The MVP focuses on discovery + WhatsApp contact — the channel Costa Ricans already use. No payments in v1, no unnecessary legal complexity.

Outcome

In production, growing in Heredia.

Capchy is live at capchy.com. The pilot launched in Heredia with verified providers across multiple categories. The REST backend handles searches filtered by category and location, and the frontend delivers a mobile-first experience optimized for Core Web Vitals.

Stack

What we used.

Technologies picked for fit, not for fashion:

  • Kotlin 2.x + Ktor 3.x (REST backend, Clean Architecture)
  • PostgreSQL 16 + Exposed DSL + Flyway (migrations)
  • React 18 + TypeScript + Vite + TanStack Query (SPA frontend)
  • Tailwind CSS + shadcn/ui + Distinguished design system
  • Railway (backend) + Vercel (frontend) + Cloudflare (CDN/DNS/R2)
